The Lagunthrup is the historic scourge of the seas. The result of mating between a dragon and a kraken, the Lagenthrup terrorized fishing boats for many centuries, and sightings have spawned tales of the Loch Ness Monster. It is equally at home in the air, however, and will leave the ocean to hunt if food is scarce. It has since gone into hibernation deep in the sea. It has been asleep for a few centuries now, but nobody knows when it will return...
My artist inspiration is James White. He was born in 1977. White lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. When he was a kid, he would steal typewriter paper to draw. Throughout grade school, he wasn't encouraged to draw, and his school had no formal art program. However, he continued to draw because he loved it. After he graduated from high school, he took a graphic design class that introduced him to Illustrator and Photoshop, and that started his career.
White's styles involves a lot of neon colors and gradients. He is heavily influenced by 80's aesthetic and pop culture. His work is characterized by a contrast between block and smooth objects.
White draws because that's what he loves to do. He believes that you should do what you love no matter what. In addition to his artwork, he now travels the world giving talks about design. He wants his talks to inspire young people to become artists.
White's work has caused me to try to be more creative and have more variety with my colors. I like the way he uses geometric shapes in very interesting ways. James White's work has shown me how depth can be created with only gradient.
My final image is similar to White's because it uses geometric shapes with gradients to convey depth. However, White's work is more polished than mine. He uses lens flares in interesting ways that I don't have the knowledge of how to do. Initially, his use of gradient creates a better 3-dimensional look.
My work in general explores the nature of depth with forms and shapes. Use of different textures and values can distort people's perceptions of reality, which is what I try to achieve with my work. Although my work is just shapes on a page, small changes can make things look very different to people, which is what I like.
